Why Go

The Facts

Buzios is only a 2-hour drive (105 miles) north of Rio de Janeiro. It has been compared to St. Tropez, and offers you white sandy beaches, an all season climate (avg. 79 F), lively nightlife, sports, and a great place to chill and work on your tan. It was originally settled by European pirates and slave traders, this happy mixture of many bloods prospered and became a picturesque fishing village, elected one of the 10 most beautiful areas in the world. Buzios is famous for its unique combination of rustic charm, architectural harmony, incredible beauty and sophisticated boutiques and restaurants.

Buzios became recognized throughout the world after famous actress Bridget Bardot fell in love with the town in the 1960's. Since then, Buzios used this publicity to make itself into Rio's premier beach resort. It is very similar to the Hamptons (in New York) in that it gets packed in the summer and holidays. Rio's elite (celebrities, jet-setters, etc.) own beach homes there or just go to get away from Rio de Janeiro on the weekends. Búzios (the town's full name is Armação de Búzios) sits on the tip of a long, beach-rich peninsula jutting out into the clear blue Atlantic. The sheer number of beaches close to town makes it easy to experience Brazilian beach culture firsthand. Geribá Beach  is the place for surfing. Quiet and calm and very deep, Ferruda Beach is perfect for a lazy afternoon snorkel. Far from town are more isolated spots to steal a quiet moment with a special beach friend, while right in town on Ossos Beach  you can sip a caipirinha at a beachside cafe and pretend for a moment you're young, rich, and beautiful.

Other than just chilling at the beach, Buzios also offers activities such as diving, sailing, windsurfing, golf, great restaurants, and endless opportunities to shop. And at night, everyone comes to the busy, bar- and cafe-lined Rua das Pedras to party.
