Madrid, the capital of Spain, is a cosmopolitan city that combines the most modern infrastructures and the status as an economic, financial, administrative and service centre, with a large cultural and artistic heritage, a legacy of centuries of exciting history.
Madrid is strategically located at the geographical centre of the Iberian peninsula, 646 meters above sea level. Its old town is exemplary among major European cities, and blends harmoniously with the most modern and convenient of urban infrastructure. Madrid offers a broad range of accommodation and services along with the most advanced audiovisual and communication technology. All this, combined with the momentum of a society that is dynamic and open, and at the same time warm and welcoming, has turned this metropolis into one of the western world's great capitals.
If there is one thing, however, that characterizes Madrid, it is the deep, contagious passion for life reflected in its friendly, welcoming people. Madrid boasts concerts, exhibitions, ballets, select theatre productions, and the latest cinematographic releases. You can sample a wide variety of the finest Spanish and international cuisine or be enchanted by its bars and taverns. These are just some of Madrid's leisure alternatives, alongside tempting shopping in the most traditional establishments and world-famous outlets stocking the finest international brands.
Madrid's happening nightlife is another major attraction. Its pubs, bars, discos and flamenco clubs have a tremendous atmosphere, while by day there are traditional verbenas (open-air dances), popular festivals or the San Isidro bullfighting festival - rated as the world's most important.

Why Should You Go To Madrid?
|
- Nightlife: The nightlife in Madrid is unique - there is nothing like it anywhere in the world. There are always places where you can go out, dance, laugh, talk, flirt... In Madrid, going out at night is a fountain of culture. There is something for everybody: from the most minimalist chill out bars to the most enticing clubs and Goth bars, from the questionable dives to the wildest afterhours clubs and nostalgic dancehalls.
- The People: Throughout the 20th century Madrid welcomed people from all over Spain; today it welcomes people from all over Europe and the rest of the world with open arms. If you have just arrived, start thinking of yourself as a "madrileño", it won't take you more than a couple of hours to feel like you are one. Go for a stroll and put away your camera and map for a while. Walk around like one of the locals, pop into a bar and order something: soon you'll find yourself talking to someone - it may well be someone who also came to Madrid for a couple of days and is still living here years later. That's Madrid, a city for the people.
- Food/Dining: In this city, gastronomy is culture, leisure and business. There is a vast range of culinary variety on offer: in Madrid you can find everything, from traditional homemade dishes to the most innovative and creative cuisine. We are lucky enough to enjoy international food from all over the globe, made with the best raw ingredients, and the stoves of the city offer some of the most surprising dishes of modern cuisine. Going out for tapas is one of the most enjoyable traditions of our city and a can't miss!
- Madrid's History: History is directly linked to the future. Madrid's past is a never-ending source of experience. It is practically impossible to imagine what this city would have been like without its Belle Époque bohemia or its Golden Age poets; nor would it be possible to explain the last 500 years of Western history without bearing in mind Madrid's influence.
- Entertainment: Madrid is the European City with the Widest Range of Cultural and Leisure Activities. Musicals, independent cinema, theatre, flamenco, opera and jazz are forms of entertainment that can only be enjoyed in big capital cities. Surely Madrid must be one of the few cities in the world where, every night, you can choose from going to hear a tenor, watch a ballerina or see the premiere of a Thai film.
- Art - Just a few metres away from each other, the masterpieces of Goya, Velázquez and Picasso are admired by visitors from all corners of the world. Major museums and artists, who are an essential chapter in the History of Art. Now, it's not just painters, but also the most avant-garde architects, who are choosing to experiment on our streets. Just to give you an idea - Three of the most important art galleries in the world are a ten-minute walk away from each other in the centre of Madrid.
- Tradition - Tradition is an essential part of life in young cities, for folklore provides yet another prism into the future. Flamenco, zarzuela (or Spanish operetta) and bullfighting are present even in Madrid's most avant-garde events. Traditions are passed on from generation to generation, and are part of the lives of any city's residents. In Madrid, taking a walk in El Rastro flea market, going to a bullfight, attending a procession, going to watch a zarzuela and taking part in public debates are traditions so deep-rooted that it's hard to figure out quite when they date back to.
- Real Madrid - Real Madrid is one of the "Dream Teams" of soccer. La Liga (Spanish Soccer League) is in effect from September to June. If you have a chance to travel to Madrid during that time we recommend checking out a game at the Santiago Bernabeau. We also offer a tour of the stadium if you are in the city when the season has ended.
