Buenos Aires is the party capital of South America. It's a city that never sleeps. Argentine locals start out the night at 10/11 PM for dinner, so do not expect to find restaurants bustling at the traditional dinner hour of 7/8 PM. While some pubs open as early as 6pm, serious clubbing doesn't start before 2am, and frequently goes on until 6, 7am, or later. At the moment, electronic music dominates the nightlife scene, but Hip-Hop is starting to make a small push. Buenos Aires's hottest clubs are all over the city and away from the tourist areas. Buenos Aires has 48 barrios (neighborhoods) -- each with its own character and history. Many residents have lived in the same barrio for generations and feel more of an affinity to their neighborhood than to the city as a whole. Below you will see a small description of some of the most popular barrios in Buenos Aires:
- La Recoleta - offers abundant restaurants, bars, pubs and shops
- San Telmo - with colonial mansions, plenty of cafes and antique shops - the outdoor antique flea market is a favorite Sunday activity
- La Boca - the picturesque old port district with growing number of sidewalk cafes and the Caminito, the little pedestrian street used as a theater and art market
- Puerto Madero - dock area which has been rejuvenated, with the warehouses being turned into restaurants and bars.
- Palermo - Palermo SoHo and Palermo Hollywood are the two "cool" neighborhoods where much of the dining scene of Buenos Aires is developing.
